AUTUMN AT LAST!

There had been a report of an icterine warbler, so on Sunday I made a stop in Wells Wood on my way up to Norfolk. After parking, I drove to the spot and saw my friend James Hanlon, who had seen the bird and pointed me in the right direction.

Well's Wood

The bird quickly appeared foraging among a swarm of Long-Tailed Tits in the treetops. It was pleasant to see an iceberg warbler, which I hadn't seen since 2022 in Shetland. It looked great in the Norfolk afternoon sun.

I saw the bird once, but it was highly evasive after that, most likely because of the cloudy weather. Two spotted flycatchers and a wood warbler were among the other noteworthy birds in the vicinity.

A wonderful afternoon for birdwatching, and finally, autumn is here!
