MIDDLETON LAKES RSPB-WARWICKSHIRE

I have spent the past week working in Lichfield with Owen Parsons and Marc Hughes. While we were there, we all visited Middleton Lakes RSPB.

We observed numerous species and some early migrants while walking around the reserve. Three bitterns were heard, and our first Sedge and Reed Warblers were seen briefly in the reedbeds. Here are a few of the species we managed to see:

Little Ringed Plover

Cetti's Warbler

Blackcap

Goosander

Shelduck

Robin

Avocet

Great Crested Grebe

A good few hours were spent here, and then we visited Napton Reservoir, which Owen and I had visited in early March, as Marc hadn't seen a Ferruginous duck for a few years. The male bird showed really well, and we also connected with our first Yellow Wagtails of the year and a very showy Whitethroat.

Ferruginous Duck

Common Whitethroat

Yellow Wagtail

A great morning's birding and Spring is definitely in full swing.
