WEEKEND CHASING ODONATA AND BUTTERFLIES-PART 2

This morning, Jen and I met Paul Brewster at his local patch near Northwich in Cheshire, hoping for a glimpse of the Downy Emerald dragonfly. Almost immediately, Paul located one near the car park. We were thrilled—there it was, perched in the sun on a hedge, offering brilliant, close-up views for all of us.

Having enjoyed this unexpected encounter, we said our goodbyes to Paul and made our way to a farmer’s pond near Chester in search of Hairy Dragonflies. No sooner had we arrived than four Hairy Dragonflies were buzzing around, and one even settled close enough for detailed observation—a truly rewarding experience.

It has been a fantastic couple of days in the field, with excellent views of every species we encountered. Next weekend promises another adventure, with more butterflies and dragonflies to add to our life list.
