RUDDY SHELDUCK-WINSFORD FLASH

This afternoon, while driving past Winsford to pick up my son from college, I couldn’t resist calling in at Winsford Flash to check on the long-staying Ruddy Shelducks.

The two birds were soon spotted walking among a flock of at least 100 Canada Geese in a field just past the sailing club, offering good views despite the distance.

While the British Ornithologists’ Union (BOU) currently cannot confirm any Ruddy Shelducks in Britain as wild or self-sustaining feral populations, making them ineligible for the official British list, they are always a delight to see and a striking addition to any day’s birding.
