GREAT GREY SHRIKE-FRODSHAM MARSHES-05/03/2017

I called in at Frodsham Marshes on the way back from Norfolk today and connected with a Great Grey Shrike that had been found yesterday. The bird was always distant and flighty, but thankfully it had hung around for me to see it.

The last record of Great Grey shrike in Cheshire and Wirral was again at Frodsham marshes and was seen around the ICI tank on the 15th and 16th of October 2015.

We spent the afternoon birding at Cley today as I wanted to try and find the Smew that had been reported.Parking up at Arnolds marsh and walking towards the coast I found the bird on one of the back pools.

The reserve was very quiet in general but we did add Stonechat and Egyptian Goose before the heavens opened.

After a good walk around the reserve we headed for the Dun cow in Salthouse for our tea and a few pints of real ale.
