A WASH OUT!

I headed to Denhall quay for first light this morning and managed to connect with the white morph Snow goose of unknown origin which was found yesterday on the estuary with hundreds of Pink footed geese.

The bird was always distant but I managed to get a few record shots.Moving on from here I headed towards Heswall where a Green winged teal has been showing for the last couple of days. The heavens opened on arrival but I continued north along the estuary. There were plenty of Whimbrel about and two Whitethroats were vocal in nearby bushes.

HESWALL MARSH
There was no sign of the Green winged teal in driving rain so I headed back to the car.Absolutely drenched I dried out in the car and headed towards Burton RSPB.The Wood warbler could be heard calling on entering gorse covert wood on arrival and showed quite well up in the canopy.

GORSE COVERT WOOD
Walking back towards the reception I could hear a Grasshopper warbler which did eventually show on top of some bushes but remained elusive deep down in some hawthorns.
GROPPER REELING AWAY IN THE UNDERGROWTH
A good mornings birding which was ended by torrential rain!

AT LAST SPRING HAS ARRIVED!

After yesterdays massive dip on the Isles of Scilly for a Belted Kingfisher I got up early and made my way up the north wirral coast to Leasowe. On arrival at the lighthouse carpark I met up with patch regular Eddie williams. As the morning mist started to clear birds were clearly moving along the coast. There were good numbers of Willow warbler and Chiffchaff around and 9 Wheatear were in the fields behind the paddocks along with a male Whinchat.
WHINCHAT
(C)ALLAN CONLIN
As we were walking around the paddocks White wagtails were in good numbers and a Yellow wagtail flew over us calling.
WHITE WAGTAIL
A local birder had found a male Redstart further down the path and it didn't take long for us to relocate it.The bird was very active feeding but distant .
Moving on down the nature trail there were good numbers of Blackcap,Willow warbler and Chiffchaff.
As we arrived at Lingham lane we bumped in to Mark turner who I hadn't seen for a long time so we continued to all bird together. At the bottom of lane we heard a Lesser whitethroat in full song that eventually appeared on top of the hawthorn bushes.

A good mornings birding and at last birds are starting to arrive and we have sunshine!LONG MAY IT CONTINUE!
